Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device

Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
